The City of Hutto

The City of Hutto’s population is expected to double in the next 10-20 years up to 80,000 residents. The City is poised to accommodate growth, in a responsible manner, for the foreseeable future.

Home of the Hippos

Hutto is most widely known for its community mascot: the hippo.

According to one popular local legend, in 1915, a circus train stopped at the Hutto depot to restock on supplies. During the stop, a hippopotamus escaped its car and made its way to a creek near the rail line. Today, the hippo is more prominent than ever throughout Hutto. Businesses and homeowners proudly display “hippo spirit” with several thousand colorfully painted concrete hippos placed throughout the community.

Convenient and Accessible Location

Located in the heart of a booming central Texas population, Hutto is a rapidly growing community located just a few miles from Austin, the Texas state capital.

  • Features major transportation corridors including US Hwy 79 and SH-130.

  • Convenient access to Austin and connectivity to all major metros in Texas.

Chris Kelley 5K

The Chris Kelley Foundation is a 100% all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to perpetually recognizing the ultimate sacrifice of Detective Sergeant Chris Kelley. This Foundation brings communities together to support law enforcement families who have lost their officer and those critically injured. We honor and pay tribute to all first responders and military.

Community Events

The City of Hutto has five city parks and a hike and bike trail with an active Parks and Recreation Department that hosts various activities throughout the year. Hutto is the perfect location for people of many different interests. There are several community events throughout the year that allow us to maintain that tight community bond such as:

Unique and Charming

With its unique aesthetic and charming 19th Century architecture, Historic Downtown Hutto provides a one-of-a-kind shopping and dining experience and boasts an array of locally-owned shops. Just west of the historic downtown is the evolving Hutto Co-Op District, home to Hutto City Hall and serving as a reminder of the City’s agriculturally-focused past.

Hippo Nation

Hutto and hippo have become synonymous to the degree that when people say that they are from Hutto most often the first response is that of “Oh, the hippos." A yell used by the Hutto cheerleaders goes; “You say Hutto, We say hippo." Hutto is hippo proud!
